Estonia, a country we hear very little of. It may not be big, and there is no war going on, so maybe that’s why, but there are some interesting things going on nonetheless.

What do you do when you are a fisherman but your lake gets frozen in winter, rendering your boat useless? Well. the people of Kallaste, Estonia have come up with quite a solution. Home-made monster trucks!

It all started when the Russian army left Estonia and they found plane tires on an abandoned airfield. These huge things must spread weight on ice nicely and give buoyancy if things go south.

So they got creative. A few UAZ 452s that mysteriously lost their axles can be found near the village.

They are now making their own tires by using two inner tubes, strips of old tires, and random bolts as studs.

Why not a trike?

Needless to say that none of these things ever passed an inspection, but the fishermen say that the local Police leaves them alone as long as they stay close to their village or on the lake.

And before you ask: Yes, all three axles are driven. They still have plates of some sort. The name of the village and a number.

This is their Triple-A/ADAC/Emergency Rescue team by the way.

I always considered waiting for fish to eat a hook a little boring. Boy, was I wrong!
